Accessing Funding

If you are planning on applying for funding for your group, getting good advice on your application can mean the difference between being accepted or turned down.

Good sources of advice:

  • Rookhsana Mohamed, Funding Advice Officer at Coventry Voluntary Service Council works with voluntary and community groups in Coventry to identify various sources of funding and to provide support with funding applications
  • Coventry City Council External Funding Helpdesk can search a funding database for you and provide a list of suitable options together with application forms - click  here for more details
  • They also produce a quarterly newsletter - click  here for the latest.

Funding Databases:

  • FunderFinder is a computer software program that helps charities and voluntary organisations identify grant-making trusts and foundations to approach for support. You can access this at CVSC, call 024 7622 0381 for more details
  • Click  here for a website giving access to details of charitable trusts, Government funding, company giving and grants for individuals
  • The Directories of Grant Making Trusts are available for reference in CVSC's library and newly furnished Resource Room.
  • GRANTnet is a user friendly database which has been specifically devised to allow organisations in Coventry to conduct their own online grants search.

Need help writing an application for funding or putting together a budget?

There are two helpful pieces of software available free from  FunderFinder called Apply Yourselves and Budget Yourselves:

Apply Yourselves helps you write effective funding applications. Use it to draft a letter or proposal to funders. As you write, click on buttons and text to get advice about what should be included and what funders will expect to see. Look up jargon, use the examples for ideas, or print out the questionnaire to help you be self-critical. Or just use the checklists to make sure you haven't overlooked something.

Budget Yourselves helps voluntary and community groups write effective budgets. It provides lots of advice about the process of making a budget, things that might need to go in it, and how to work out accurate costs. Use it to link budgets and to compare actual income and expenditure with your budget figures. It does the calculating, so if you change any of the figures, your budget will still add up.
