Since the Environment group reformed in September 2008 several successful projects have taken place including adopting five key climate change projects for the City.
The Coventry Partnership Board agreed that it wishes to see a clearer vision for a low carbon future and its implications for the city. It agreed that a small high level task group should form to work on this during 2010.
The group are basing their work on a publication entitled "A Low Carbon Vision for the West Midlands in 2020", produced by Forum for the Future in 2009. This offers a picture of the West Midlands and how the ambition might be realised.
The Task Group (along with a wider stakeholder group) will interpret the broad vision to a Coventry context by examining, on a monthly basis, eight focus areas including energy use; transport issues; employment issues and adapting to climate change.
For each focus area the following things will be covered:
- A shared understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead
- Lessons from inspiring practice from elsewhere
- Current and planned activity in Coventry
- Our ambition for Coventry 2020
- What needs to happen to achieve the vision
The task group will operate through 2010, culminating in a major conference in December 2010 to draw the strands together to create the vision and galvanise action from across the Partnership.
