About your group

The SCRCC came into existence in 2004, and is a charitable Somali refugee community organisation from the disadvantaged areas in Coventry, e.g. Hillfields, Stoke, Foleshill, enabling the community to meet and exchange knowledge and information about their new life since settling in the UK. Cultural activities and events provide a social platform, and the children learn of their origins, background and history and their language. The aim is to improve the quality of life for disadvantaged Somalis living in Coventry and to support integration into the wider community and the opportunity to access jobs, education, training, and other services e.g. housing, benefits, health etc. The SCRCC ensures that all sectors of the Somali community, regardless of age, religion and cultural background, have the same opportunities as other sectors of the community. We have a special affinity to the children and endeavour to enhance their chances of getting the appropriate support to achieve educational attainments and support them to become responsible and good citizens, as they can very easily be influenced by external and peer pressures leading to unacceptable behaviour. Current Services Delivered: Somcul Supplementary School, Advice and Information Office, General Signposting.
