About your group

We are a democratic residents association based on the "new" housing estate known as "Daimler Green" in Radford. The site was formally the Jaguar engine plant which closed in circa 1997. The majority of housing on the estate is now complete and we now have circa 650 homes on 14 new roads

Primarily we deal with estate issues such as crime, crime prevention and new (corporate) planning applications. Though on occasions we do get involved in other matters that relate to the welfare and safety of residents. We have a active Neighbourhood Watch and we work closely with the Neighbourhood Police Team, local Councillors and Neighbourhood Management

As the estate has not been adopted by the council many of the issues i.e. street lamps not working, street cleaning etc, normally dealt with by City Council, are still handled by the developer of the estate - Taylor Wimpey.

At the centre of the estate is a sports pitch with a senior and junior football pitches and has with a cricket square in the middle suitable for junior cricket. A community building with provision for a hall, function room and changing rooms, a multiuse hard court area with floodlighting is due to be completed in July 2008.  The hard court area will be suitable for 5 a-side football, netball and tennis. Alongside the Centre will be a play area for children aged up to 8.

DGRA work closely with the Daimler Green Community Reaction Trust (soon to be a registered charity) who will mange the facilities on behalf of the local and greater community. The sports field, "the green" in between formal usage, is well used by local residents - children and adults alike as its provides a welcome open & protected environment being well overlooked by homes all round. Back in 2004 DGRA worked with Trust to arrange a fun day on the green which was a great success with circa 1000 visitors enjoying the music, clowns & organised games over the day - another is being planned for late summer this year.

Opening of the Community Centre will provide the opportunity for Daimler Green residents to have a place that they be able to call their own and develop locally based community activities/clubs in the future.
